Yichun Fan awarded prestigious MIT Martin Fellowship
SUL has very exciting news: Yichun Fan was just awarded the “MIT Martin Fellowship”
This Martin Fellowship program, administered by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI), is the centerpiece of MIT’s graduate education in sustainability. It was made possible by a generous gift to MIT by Lee (’42) and Geri Martin through The Martin Foundation.
The selection of Martin Fellows is highly competitive. In Yichun’s Award Letter, the Committee had high praise, “Congratulations on this honor, which reflects your strong academic and research accomplishments, and most importantly, your dedication to advancing sustainability for humanity and the natural world.”
Yichun has other outstanding achievements – she was awarded the Tang Fellowship (another very competitive selection at the Institute level) in 2021.
The Martin Fellowship is very generous: it will cover one academic year’s full tuition and stipend for a PhD student. In addition, it will give Yichun a lot of flexibility and freedom to focus on her own research and PhD dissertation.
The Institute will also connect all the previous fellows and new fellows with each other, with MIT faculty, and distinguished visitors. So this opens a new door to Yichun’s academic career.
Congratulations to Yichun!
