Net-Zero Homes and Housing Affordability

After 1.5 years of research work, our project report “Net Zero Homes and Housing Affordability in Massachusetts” is now formally available to the public.

So far this report has been covered in the Boston Business Journal, Statehouse News Service, MassLive, Eagle-Tribune, Banker & Tradesman, Boston Globe, and Contrarian Boston. Also WBZ-TV has a segment coming out on it. Already generating a lot of impact!

On July 18, Justin and Zhengzhen went to the Massachusetts State House to meet State Government officials and media groups. A nice outcome for MIT/CRE’s Climate and Real Estate Initiative and our SUL Lab!

This was a joint research project with the construction management department at Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT), sponsored by Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Massachusetts (HBRAMA). The lead PI of our MIT/CRE team is Prof.  Justin Steil, and our team includes Zhengzhen Tan, Siqi Zheng, Akrisht Pandey and Maria Jimena Muzio.

In this project, we explore how can public policies simultaneously advance the transition to net-zero housing while also addressing the housing affordability crisis in Massachusetts.
